The only downside was the bed – the mattress seemed to slope away from the middle and the foam in the mattress added to the heat from the duvet (even the cooler one was too hot for us). Foxes Cottage, Forest of Dean Holiday Accommodation, 16 – 23 June 2014. ‘Beds very uncomfortable, toaster broken, fridge not working properly, stairs very loud need attention. Clean & quiet. Enjoyed the area.’ Bella, Andrew, Partney, Wilton.

Note from Elaine. Wish you had spoken to us. I brought the toaster indoors afterwards to use ourselves as it looked to be working fine, all 4 slots were heating up.  I then found that one of the slots did not ‘pop-up’ to get the toast out of it after toasting. With the fridge, I think that you were not making sure that the fridge door was properly closed. It is a built in fridge and the oak door attached to the fridge door makes the door heavy and if the door is not pressed closed it may be still be slightly ajar.  If you had spoken to me I could have solved both these problems immediately – replacing the toaster and advising you about the fridge. One of your gentlemen did say that he found his mattress hard and I gave him a thick duvet to put under the bottom sheet. Generally our guests prefer a firm mattress and have commented on our comfortable beds but I expect it depends what you are used to at home. Regarding the stairs, they do creak. They have already been attended to – re-screwed and re-glued, and the creak greatly reduced but we were told it was impossible to achieve silence with them. The creak is not loud and, according to some of our guests ‘adds character’! If you are very sensitive to little noises perhaps it would be better to choose one of our cottages without stairs.
